They were immediately rushed to the Roing hospital where the condition of all the ten injured in the police firing is said to be critical. Most of the injured were rushed to Dibrugarh hospital on the same night.
The student victims were eight boys and one girl. Five of the injured are school students and rest from college.
According to one witness, police chased and fired at the group of students on the streets of Roing bazaar. The gun shots rattled the streets for almost ten minutes, said the witness.
“It was around 9.30 pm, when I heard the sound of gun shots. I rushed out of my shop and saw young boys running helplessly, some falling in the drain and on the road. They were chased by a group of paramilitary forces, who were taking aim at the boys with their assault rifles and firing.”
The bullet hit the left hand of the lone female student, Emime Mekola injured in the police firing.
Tenzing Linggi and Jabo Pulu, both studying humanities from Indira Gandhi College, Tezu had bullet pierced on their thigh and leg.
Three school students Rajen Umpey, Asati Linggi and Alo Meme sustained bullet injuries in their hand and head.
The condition of two students Nanay Langkam and Tanya Mihu is not known. Rahul Meme, a student of IGG College of Tezu and one elderly person Giti Mili was beaten to the state of unconsciousness by CRPF personnel.
As if not satisfied with the action, around 30 paramilitary jawans that included Special Task Force, IRBn and CRPF personnel led by Roing Superintendent of Police Veenu Bansal followed the injured at the hospital premises, threatening to take away the injured with them.
The police forces were stopped by group of young boys and girls at the entrance of Roing hospital. An altercation followed that led to police firing shots in the air, threatening to make way inside the hospital premises. However, after the police team was convinced that injured were in critical condition, Bansal and his men agreed to turn back.
Reportedly, police action followed after students resisted a police team comprising of IRBn, STF and CRPF trying to close down puja stalls erected outside the Durga Puja premises.
